Round silver rods loop over and under one another along the whole band of this sterling silver cuff bracelet, like a loose braid pulled open, and the wrist shows through the diamond-shaped gaps between them. On top of the wrist the weave makes room for one oval blue topaz in a smooth bezel, and the rods run up to its rim from both sides. This braided silver structure, with the stone worked into it rather than mounted on top, is the idea behind this designer cuff bracelet for women: wide and full from a distance, mostly air up close.

The topaz is natural and stabilized, faceted as an oval, in a light, clear blue. Blue topaz is sold in shades that run from pale to the deep, inky tone called London blue; this stone stays at the light end, close in tone to the white metal around it. The result is a gemstone bracelet in soft silver and blue rather than a dark stone on a bright band.

We cast the cuff in 925 silver in our workshop in Türkiye and finish it by hand, then polish it and plate it with rhodium. The rhodium keeps the silver bright white and slows tarnish. About 30 grams of metal go into it, which makes this a chunky silver bracelet you feel when you wear it, while the openwork keeps the look lighter than the weight.

The band is rigid and open at the back, and it ends in two solid, polished silver caps instead of cut rods. There is no clasp: it wears like a cuff bangle, put on through the gap and turned so the topaz faces up. Like the other cuffs we make, it has no size and sits on most average wrists. On its own it is a statement bracelet for a bare arm or a rolled shirt sleeve; it also sits easily next to a watch on the other wrist.

Topaz is the November birthstone, and blue topaz is one of the stones of December as well, so this birthstone cuff bracelet marks a birthday in either month, and a Christmas gift for a wife or girlfriend who wears silver.
