Raw citrine nuggets, uncut and each in its own irregular shape, are strung close together into a 45 cm necklace that runs from pale honey to deep amber. At the center hangs a rectangular pendant in matte 925 sterling silver: a flat slice of citrine inside a twisted silver rope frame, pale at the top and warming to orange bands at the lower edge, with thin silver lines curling across its face. A heavy strand of natural stone carrying a small framed picture in silver is the idea behind the piece, and it is what makes this a statement necklace rather than a plain citrine pendant necklace.

The silver lines on the slice hold two small stones. Near the top a triangular synthetic amethyst adds one point of purple; lower down a square synthetic zircon sits colorless in its own square setting. So this citrine and amethyst necklace keeps the purple as an accent, and the yellow of the strand leads.

The citrine itself is natural and untreated. Citrine is a yellow variety of quartz, so this is also a crystal necklace in the plainest sense: a whole strand of quartz nuggets, worn for color and scale. The stones total 370 carats, and the finished necklace weighs 77.4 grams, almost all of it citrine. That weight is felt: this is a chunky beaded necklace that carries an outfit on its own.

At 45 cm, about 17.7 inches, it is close to an 18 inch necklace. On the model it lies along the collarbone, with the pendant just below the base of the throat, which suits an off-the-shoulder top, a strapless dress or a sweetheart neckline as well as a plain crew neck.

We make it by hand in our workshop in Türkiye: the strand is assembled stone by stone, and the pendant is built in silver with a matte finish that keeps the metal quiet next to the color of the citrine. The loose, warm look makes it a boho gemstone necklace for women who like their jewelry large.
