Product story

Description

Light blue enamel eyes and clear zircons take turns along this evil eye tennis bracelet, each one set in its own round cup of silver. Every eye has a dark pupil at its center, the nazar that Turkish homes hang by the door, and between two eyes sits a small sparkling stone. The cups are linked edge to edge, so the bracelet bends with the wrist and lies flat like a bezel tennis bracelet, but the line runs blue, white, blue instead of one kind of stone from end to end.

It is cast in 925 sterling silver and finished by hand in our workshop in Türkiye, then polished bright. The whole piece weighs about 9 grams. Each eye is an inlay of blue enamel set beside the zircons: it fills its cup with a smooth, flat surface, so the eye keeps a sharp outline. The stones are synthetic zircons, round and 2 mm across, held by a closed rim of silver instead of prongs, so nothing snags on a sleeve or a knit. Zircon is a December birthstone, which makes this sterling silver evil eye bracelet a December birthstone bracelet as well.

The meaning of a Turkish eye bracelet is protection. The nazar is believed to send an envious look back before it reaches the person who wears it, which is why it is given as a good luck charm to friends, brides and new mothers. In Turkish custom a nazar that cracks or falls off is said to have done its job and is replaced; here each eye sits in a silver cup rather than on a thread. There is no fixed rule for which hand to wear it on: many keep an evil eye bracelet for protection on the left wrist, others wear it where they will see it most.

The bracelet is 20 cm long, roughly 8 inches, and fastens with a lobster clasp. Its small cups make it a dainty evil eye bracelet that stacks with thin silver bracelets or a plain chain and is easy to wear alone every day, and as a gift for her it carries a wish for luck along with the sparkle.
